Hubbards is a popular summer vacation destination with 10 beaches within driving distance.  Numerous cottages, inns, campgrounds, restaurants and the Shore Club contribute to a healthy tourist economy.

The CBC television series Black Harbour was shot on location in Hubbards between 1996 and 1999.

The movie Relative Happiness (2016) was filmed on location in Hubbards.

Oil magnate Jefferson Davis (“J.D.”) Shatford was born in Hubbards in 1862 and died in 1955. His will established the J.D. Shatford Memorial Trust for local residents graduating from high school can receive bursaries from the trust for post-secondary education. A definite incentive for those considering purchasing a home in the trust area boundaries

Hubbards marks one end of the coast of the Aspotogan Peninsula is dotted with a number of small fishing and tourist-related communities;  Other communities going around the peninsula include Fox Point, Mill Cove, Birchy Head, The Lodge, Northwest Cove, Southwest Cove, Aspotogan, Bayswater, New Harbour, Blandford, Upper Blandford, Deep Cove, and East River. The Swiss Air 111 Memorial site is located in Bayswater.

In 1994, the Aspotogan Heritage Trust was created to oversee the renovation and re-population of the land and buildings that were decommissioned at CFS Mill Cove following the automation of the receiver station. The Trust assets includes the province’s first dedicated sound stage (established in 1996) in Mill Cove Park. More than $40 million of film and TV production took place at this sound stage over a 5-year period, including filming for the CBC Television series Black Harbour and Blackfly.

The Hollywood film High Tide at Noon (1957) was filmed at Northwest Cove, Nova Scotia while The Shipping News with Kevin Spacey was filmed in Blandford, Nova Scotia.
